SAW or Soldiers At War was formed by a group of gamers looking to provide a home where games would be played within some basic guidelines. These included playing a fair game, not being abusive, respecting fellow gamers & forming a safe community environment for all ages & sexes. It all began in 2006 & with modest single server availability slowly expanded to finally host a number of various gaming servers on our own server box hosted out of a datacenter in Sydney. The main game that the clan was based on is DODS-Day Of Defeat Source but has now expanded to cover many other titles, some mainstream & others mods that get less online coverage.

There are a few big changes in today's update that we wanted to highlight.

We are adding our new map, dow_foy, into the rotation. The map isn't finished yet so still contains some placeholder assets and lacks final detail. Foy is an attack and defend detonation style map that was designed to accommodate larger battles.

We look forward to getting your reactions and input on the map/style, and suggestions for improvements.


We will be providing an update on the map editor rollout soon and be releasing more details/previews in the coming weeks for our next map, dow_italy.


We've finished the rewrite of our weapon code, which has allowed us to make some long awaited fixes like the ability to cancel reloads and ADS animations, add a jump fire penalty, and fire while transitioning to crouch and prone. It has also fixed a bunch of legacy bugs and hitches in the gun system many of you have reported.

Overall this system is much more reliable and will be easier for us to modify and maintain going forward. We have taken the opportunity to make some changes in the weapon balance, namely in recoil and weapon spread (not damage). These include gun specific changes, and sweeping changes to how things like how iron sights handle. Overall, the gunplay should feel more fluid and responsive.

The weapon system is the first half of our planned gameplay mechanic updates, with the other half being animations and movement. The movement systems are nearly complete and will be entering internal testing soon.


Our sound designer has reworked every gun's 1p firing sounds and added some small foley like shell casing drop sounds. The new sounds are a lot beefier and make the guns feel like they have more consequence to them. The next sound update will focus on updating all the 3p sounds to match and improving spacialization.

So far it is the only one in the area so hopefully it will get a good run from the locals as well as us.  :bravo:

Days of War will be coming to Early Access on January 26th.

As we move into Early Access we want to share with you some of the planned additions to the game. Below we have outlined our high level roadmap for the coming months.



Early Access Roadmap

First things first, we want to remind everyone that Days of War is still in development. Anything in the game now is subject to change and most of it will be changing. This includes art, animations, sound, FX, maps, etc. We will adjust the priority of changes based on what we hear from you, so please continue to give us your feedback.

Maps

We are announcing our next 2 official maps, one in the sun, one in the snow. Names are placeholder.

dow_italy

Gamemode: Domination


The first is a map from the D-Day invasion of Italy and takes place on the hilly Italian coastline. We've introduced a bit of verticality with this map but kept the layout fairly traditional.


dow_foy

Gamemode: Detonation


This map is based on the Siege of Bastogne during the Battle of the Bulge in Belgium in late 1944, as shown in Band of Brothers. Allies spawn in the forest in foxholes and must assault the town. Axis must defend three objectives, a tank, a flak88 and a howitzer that are all capable of shelling the Allies.

Authentic Arsenal

The game contains a full-range arsenal including bolt-action rifles, pistols, revolvers, submachine guns, heavy machine guns, grenades, and flamethrowers. Fix bayonets, extend magazines, or swap iron sights with period-specific customization options.

Teamwork Required

Officers can direct their team in the field. In addition to a wide variety of command options, they may call in fire support if a radio operator is nearby. Fire support options include artillery barrage and smoke screen. Local voice is used to talk to your teammates in the game, but be careful because the enemy can hear you if you’re too close. Radio operators also serve as a communication beacon to those around them, as HQ and radio operator chatter can be heard through them.

Multiplayer Modes
Designed for up to 32 players engaging in sustained infantry combat, battling over territorial and destructive objectives that increase your reinforcements.
